A key member of Environmental Defense Fund's tiny web staff. Rowell created some of the organizations most popular pages, including the Guide to Energy-Efficient Lighting, which the Philadelphia Enquirer called "unparalleled" and Smithsonian magazine called the buying guide "the best CFL guide on the Net."
The guide led Spirit Magazine to invite Rowell to be part of its "Expert On" [pdf] series.
She developed and wrote the bulk of the content for FightGlobalWarming.com, an information hub about climate change, its effects, and solutions. She also led the organization's efforts to create an online primer on the link between hurricanes and climate change, working closely with five scientists, a GIS expert, and photo editor, editing and coordinating the content.

Rowell oversaw the selection and ranking of technology stories, writing headlines and deks and covering breaking news. She planned, assigned and edited articles, commentaries, review packages and features.
Rowell edited the Chelsea and film section of Inside New York, a guide to New York City. She has also copy edited for Scholastic Education.
